However, there has been no information or game footage shown since then due to reported issues with development leading the project to change studios from Bandai Namco Studios to former developer Retro Studios. ![]() Nintendo also promised a further instalment to the Prime series in 2017, announcing that Metroid Prime 4 was in development. It seems obvious that Nintendo would want to build on the recent success with further games. The last Metroid game to be released was 2021’s Metroid Dread which was the best-selling game in the franchise’s history, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. Grubb's claims are hardly unbelievable, then, but it's still worth taking them with a pinch of salt at hand, just in case they don't end up entirely panning out. It would make perfect sense if Nintendo were to re-release fully updated versions of the previous titles before the new one comes out. Metroid Prime 4 is still in production, after all. It will be available on the Nintendo eShop on Feb. Multiple Metroid projects have released for the Switch between the time Metroid Prime 4 was announced and now, including the critically-acclaimed Metroid Dread and the Metroid Prime remaster. Now that the series has been nudged back into the limelight, however, Nintendo may feel like it's on a schedule to get the two remaining Prime titles out. Some sources have suggested that Metroid Prime Remastered was ready years ago, implying that the company wasn't in any rush to push the game to stores. Nintendo's handling of Metroid Prime has been quite curious, broadly speaking. The good news, though, is that the sequels aren't quite as outdated as the original title was, giving them a bit of an edge in that respect. The idea that Nintendo might choose not to give these titles the same sort of attention that Metroid Prime Remastered received, however, might miff some of the fans who have come to expect a high level of polish from the company. Jeff Grubb has long been saying that Metroid Prime 2 and 3 will come to Switch sooner or later, so it's not too surprising to hear him doubling down on these claims. Grubb also used the opportunity to claim that Nintendo would be doing "something not related to Tears of the Kingdom" with the Legend of Zelda franchise later in 2023. In fact, Grubb claims that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered should be coming out "relatively soonish," adding that it's going to be "mostly what people want." Grubb's sources told him that the game would have modern controls and HD visuals, but that it wouldn't receive quite the same level of polish as the remaster of the first Prime did. Remastering a sequel by leveraging previously established tech may seem like a no-brainer, though the existence of the new title is yet to be confirmed. Specifically, Metroid Prime Remastered sold over a million copies between February and March of 2023, underlining just how excited the community was for it, as well as the franchise's importance for Nintendo's current Switch game roster. The recent resounding success of the remaster of the original Metroid Prime certainly proved that there's plenty of interest in this particular franchise offshoot, so it wouldn't be overly surprising if Nintendo jumped on the opportunity to continue its streak. Sources have suggested that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered is now in active development and that it might not be too long until people get to play it on their Nintendo Switch consoles. ![]()
